Boudoir Session Guide

This is a guide to help you pick the best outfits for your photoshoot that help you feel confident. Boudoir sessions are an incredible way to feel empowered in your own skin–but it can definitely put you out of your comfort zone, especially if this is your first time! Here are a few tips and recommendations to help you prepare to feel comfortable and prepare for your boudoir session. If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask!

To begin...

The first  thing I want you to know is that Consent is Key in my studio. I want you to feel safe with me and feel like you can trust me. I pride myself on creating an environment where you can be yourself and not feel pressured to do anything that you don’t want to do.

When you come in, we’ll play some music to get us pumped up, and we’ll have a conversation before you even change into your outfits. During this chat, I’ll ask you what physical features you love and want emphasized and which features you’d rather not highlight. We’ll also talk about what poses you’re comfortable doing–sitting, standing, on your back or front, etc.

Throughout our shoot I’ll direct and guide you through poses. If at any point you’re uncomfortable, you can let me know and I will stop immediately, no questions asked, and pivot to something more in your comfort zone.

No matter what, as long as you and I are clearly communicating about our boundaries in a respectful way, we’re going to have a great time!

What should I bring with me?

  1. Outfits: For a one-hour shoot, I recommend bring 1-3 outfits. For a mini-session, I recommend just one outfit. You’re also welcome to bring more than that and we can talk through the options together!
  2. Extras and Accessories: Shoes, garters, robes, stockings, knee-high socks, jewelry, etc. You can also bring something of your partner’s–like a button down shirt–to wear, or an oversized sweater.
  3. Lotion, Make-up, Hairbrush, Bobby pins, Hair ties, etc: Keeping your skin moisturized is always a good idea (especially here in Colorado) and bringing extra make-up and hair supplies is great for touch-ups between shots or outfits.

The Day of Your Boudoir Session

  • Come prepared with your hair and make-up done
  • Wear loose fitting clothing and remove hair ties around your wrists or tight watches so there are no imprints on your skin
  • Eat a light meal or snack beforehand (no one wants to be hangry walking in the door)
  • Allow yourself plenty of travel time so you’re not feeling rushed when you arrive

Outfit Ideas & recommendations

  1. Lingerie
  2. Button down shirt
  3. Blazer or jacket
  4. Wedding veil
  5. Robe
  6. Jeans & bra
  7. Think about colors that work well with your skintone, eye color, hair color etc. Think complementary colors. These will bring out your natural tones and will make your features pop!
  8. Plan clothes that highlight your most favorable parts. For example, I do not love my upper arms so I would feel more comfortable in a piece that does not accentuate this part of my body. It is not about how others see you but about how you see and feel and see yourself. The more comfortable you feel the more comfortable you will look in your photos.
